2024 All-State Festival Audition Information
A. Audition Day
Audition Type: 2024 auditions will be live auditions.
Location: Shrewsbury HS, 64 Holden Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545
Date: Saturday, January 20, 2024
Snow Date: Sunday, January 21, 2024

The audition schedule by district is indicated in the following table. Note the time that corresponds to the name of your school and your geographic district. Home-schooled students may come at any time during their geographic district's audition times, or arrange a suitable time with Michael Lapomardo, the MMEA Auditions Coordinator, in advance. Contact Michael at mlapomardo@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us.
Please note the following:
- Three schools will be randomly assigned from the first time block to audition at the start of auditions.
- Schools sending more than 20 students to auditions may be contacted to schedule a time to avoid congestion.
- Each school may ask for two special time requests. All requests must be made from their school director in advance. Requests from parents, students or private teachers will be declined.
- Any requests for changes to audition times must be submitted to Michael Lapomardo by January 2, 2024.

- The signed Medical Permission Form for each student who is auditioning;
- The signed Principal Form for your school. (The Principal Form is accessible when you register your students for auditions.)
- Payment for the amount indicated on the Principal Form.
B. Audition Registration
Registration Dates
All State Audition Registration opens Monday, December 4, 2023
All State Audition REGULAR Registration closes at midnight on Friday, December 8, 2023
All State Audition LATE registration: closes on Friday, December 15, 2023. Students cannot be registered for auditions past this point.
Registration Fees
2024 All State Audition Student Regular Registration Fee: $30.00
2024 All State Audition Student Late Registration Fee: $50.00

Students must be registered through your District Avenir login.
Completing the Audition Registration Process
Once students have been registered online, appropriate fees, payment/PO's, and the signed principal form must be brought to Auditions on January 20, 2024. It is also recommended that you email a PDF copy of the forms to Noreen.
Each ensemble director that has a student submission must have a valid, active NAfME number. Please double-check when yours expires. It must be active through January 20, 2024 for auditions, and through March for the festival.

Sight Reading
Students will be asked to sight read a short example during their audition. MMEA uses Sight Reading Factory and has a published level. Students and directors can access that directly through SRF. If you do not have an account, please use these examples to help give you guidance.
Timpani and Jazz students will follow similar requirements. Examples have been written specifically for MMEA uses and cannot be shared.
Harp students will read from concert literature when available

Snare Drum Rudiments
All snare drum musicians will perform 2 rudiments (adjudicator’s choice from the approved list):
- 5, 7, or 9 stroke roll - alternating
- Flam accent
- Single paradiddle
- Double paradiddle
- Ruffs
- Triple Ratamacue
- Flamacue
Multi-Percussion
All timpani, snare drum, and mallet musicians will be required to play 5 multi-percussion examples.
Musicians may pause slightly between each example.
